Self Portrait
Artists Statement: When brainstorming for this project, I wanted more than anything for my self portrait to represent my free spirit, and my attachment to Washington. I found that the selfie with the wind blowing through my hair, and the funny look on my face was the most accurate depiction of these things;. I felt that that particular picture was completely, in all senses, me. However, the picture still lacked an adequate description of my love for Washington, as the picture was taken from the passenger side of my mothers truck, and had no emotional significance to me (except the fact that my mom could be seen driving in the back). Hence, I used another picture of the towering trees in Washington to portray my love for the state. Still, I found the project incomplete; I wanted to further prove my attachment to the forest, and the trees. I felt that such feelings would be perfectly demonstrated if the background could be seen through me. In my eyes, this really completed my project, showing that I, a free spirit am one with the trees, and the state in general.

Landscape Mini Project
Through the Landscape Mini project, I learned a great deal about Foreground, Middle ground, and Background. As a result of this project, I have learned that details, contrast, and color are all more prominent in foreground; these properties slowly decrease in the middle ground and background. While doing this project, I found the tools "quick select" allowing the editor to quickly select like pixels, most useful. Because this tool allows the editor to select and deselect like pixels, I completed the project with great ease, while maintaining quality. In conclusion, the Landscape Project efficiently taught me new ways to use Photoshop, and the importance of foreground, middle ground, and background.

Teacher Creature Project
Project ReflectionWhile it may seem complicated, the Teacher Creature project was quite simple to complete. In order to complete my project, I first found the pictures I intended to use on the internet (google.com/images). I then edited the photos using a number of tools (such as Quick Select, Clone Stamp, Erase, and Hue and Saturation) to turn Matt Dooley into a life-sized pineapple prepared to fight Smaug the Terrible dragon. I believe the hardest part of this project was trying to find creative, original, ways to go the extra mile with this project. I didn’t wish to simply create a teacher creature, I wanted to do something extravagant that made my project stand out. Hence, I added Smaug the Terrible Dragon (from The Hobbit), battle gear, and a red sky to my project. In order to make the picture seem more realistic, I had to change the color balance, and the hue/saturation of the landscape to fit the light of the red sky. I also had to adjust the color of Smaug, to ensure that he didn’t blend in with the castle. My favorite part of this project was brainstorming, and being able to portray my creativity in a unique and entertaining way, I feel like this project had very high educational value. Through this project, I have learned that I am not the world’s most talented artist; however, I have learned that I am very dedicated, and I will do virtually anything to succeed.
